It's difficult to describe feeling of being at Mountain Water, but relaxed, open, spacious comes close. Robert did a series of paintings when he and Joan lived up the road as the caretakers of Dorje Kyung Dzong (or DKD) a Buddhist retreat center. They evoke the experience of being on the land quite well. The full gallery and commentary can be found on Robert's website, where he writes:
"...painting and drawing our surroundings was a perennial mode of discovering and inhabiting the place, like a secret entryway. The paintings that follow are unabashedly romantic and the vivid pleasure had in their doing would be hard to exaggerate."
